Biography
Cheryl completed her formal education and began her professional career after marriage and raising two daughters. She completed a Bachelor`s Degree in Education, with duel minors in Art and Music, from the University of Great Falls in Montana, where she was founder and
director of a Health and Fitness Ministry for several years.
After moving to San Luis Obispo in 1986, she attended graduate school at Cal Poly and
received her Master`s Degree in Counseling with emphasis in Marriage & Family Counseling in 1990. Cheryl was a therapist and case manager for children in the foster care system for twelve years before entering the field of geriatric care management.
Having managed two senior care management programs in the past 6 years, Cheryl understands the difficulties and stresses involved with caring for a family member from a distance because the vast majority of her clients moved to the Central Coast for retirement, but their adult children weren't living in the area when health declined and circumstances necessitated professional assistance. She believes that "being older oneself, offers the advantage of a
seasoned perspective towards the challenges and obstacles often faced by aging adults and their family members."
In 2003, Cheryl became certified through the National Academy of Certified Care Managers (NACCM). Its' purpose is to advance the quality of care management services by assuring
individual competence to perform a full range of senior care management tasks through standardized examination of skills, knowledge and practice ethics needed to serve consumers. In this age of complex healthcare services, it is important to know the training, skills and background of the professionals you choose to assist your aging family members. "Not everyone who calls them self a senior care manager is qualified to be one."
